Bar Manager

As a Bar Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the bar to ensure a vibrant, welcoming, and safe environment for guests and staff alike. You will lead the front-of-house team, manage stock and compliance, and ensure consistently high standards of service and beverage quality.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Team Management: Supervise, train, and motivate bar staff to deliver exceptional service. Manage rosters, delegate duties, and maintain high staff morale.
Customer Experience: Create a warm and engaging atmosphere by welcoming guests, addressing concerns promptly, and ensuring all patrons have a positive and memorable experience.
Beverage Service Excellence: Oversee the preparation and presentation of a wide range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, ensuring consistency and quality.
Product Knowledge & Upselling: Maintain expert knowledge of the drinks menu, seasonal specials, and promotions to support staff training and drive sales through effective upselling.
Stock Control: Manage bar inventory, place orders, receive deliveries, and monitor usage to minimise waste and prevent stock shortages.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure full compliance with New Zealand liquor licensing laws, gaming regulations, and health and safety standards at all times.
Cash & POS Management: Oversee daily cash handling, EFTPOS transactions, and reconcile sales through the POS system, maintaining accurate financial records.
Cleanliness & Hygiene: Ensure the bar and service areas are always clean, well-organised, and meet hygiene standards.
Collaboration: Work closely with kitchen and floor staff to maintain efficient service flow and excellent communication between departments.
Job Requirements
Have a Manager's Certificate Have Certificate of Acceptance (COA) or willing to obtain Flexibility with Availability – able to work evenings, weekends, and public holidays as required Clean Ministry of Justice (MoJ) Record – for compliance and safety purposes Strong Communication Skills – confident, friendly, and professional with guests and team members Ability to Work Under Pressure – stays calm and efficient during busy service periods Cash Handling & POS System Knowledge – accurate and reliable with transactions Team Player Attitude – cooperative, reliable, and supportive in a team environment Well-Groomed Presentation – maintains a tidy and professional appearance Understanding of NZ Liquor Licensing Laws
