Grounds Person and Caretaker

Lawn Care mowing edging and fertilising lawns within the Parihaka hapori with lawn mowing and edging to be carried out on a regular basis of not less than three weekly subject to weather permitting Plant maintenance planting pruning and weeding trees and shrubs within the Parihaka hapori Landscaping maintaining landscapes including gardens walkways and other outdoor features within the Parihaka hapori Equipment Operation operating and maintaining all equipment associated with this role, such as mowers, chainsaws, trimmers hand tools and irrigation systems ensuring that all health and safety practices are complied with at all times including the wearing of safety clothing and accessories such as ear and eye protection. Equipment Logistics & Security working with PPT tari management create and maintain an inventory of all PPT equipment and securing that equipment when not in use Cleanliness removing litter and debris from grounds and including grass clippings within the Parihaka hapori Minor repairs and maintenance as directed by the Parihaka Papakainga Trust PPT tari management carrying out basic repairs to fences, gates and other structures within the Parihaka hapori such as changing valves and washers on the new water pumps Safety ensuring that the grounds of the Parihaka hapori are safe for use by residents and visitors including checking for hazards Health liaising with the Chair or their representative of Marae located within the Parihaka hapori to check and maintain all health and safety devices such as fire extinguishers civil defence resources, first aid resources including defibrillators are in working order are current and comply with all legislative requirements Security report any suspicious activity observed within the Parihaka hapori to PPT tari management as soon as possible practicable When where appropriate participating in community hui and activities and engaging with the Parihaka community
Job Requirements
Location living on or near the Papakainga is desirable Physical fitness ability to perform physically demanding tasks including lifting bending and prolonged standing Knowledge of Horticulture a basic knowledge of plant care lawn maintenance and landscaping techniques Equipment knowledge proficiency in operating and maintaining groundskeeping equipment Pest and Disease Management knowledge of common pests and diseases and methods for their control Teamwork ability to work and communicate effectively in a team environment an excellent team player Problem Solving skills ability to identify issues related to grounds maintenance escalating serious matters and or requests for expenditure to address issues to PPT tari management for decision action. A full drivers license An understanding of Te Ao Maori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi is desirable Basic Te Reo would be an advantage but is not required for this role
