Support worker

Are you passionate about supporting people in our community with intellectual disabilities and/or complex mental health needs. A local service is looking for one permanent fulltime and one casual staff member who are resilient, solution focused, naturally energetic and have a genuine interest in supporting people to achieve their goals and learn new skills. You will be teaching them life skills such as cooking, art, music and cultural programmes and mentor them to make positive life choices. You will be well supported by your colleagues, service manager, health professionals and the wider organisation whanau. The service operates 24/7 so the role involves working a mix of shifts to cover the 24-hour roster.
Duties include - Encourage and support Tangata Whaiora (people who access the service) connections with Whanau and provide support with appointments around mental and physical health. - Working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders. - Working with tangata whaiora to identify significant goals. Providing encouragement and support to achieve their goals. - Ensure key documentation and handovers are accurately recorded. - Attend and contribute to team meetings, bringing ideas and updating others on their activities.
Job Requirements
To be successful in this role, ideally you will bring along the following: - Ability to work collaboratively with mental health professionals and within our team. - NZ Certificate in Health and Wellbeing, Level 4 (desirable). - Be flexible and able to work a variety of different shifts (mornings, evenings, weekends, and public holidays). - Understanding and being comfortable with tikanga Maori and Te Reo would be advantageous. - Have an attitude of genuinely wanting to make a positive difference in people's lives. - A full New Zealand Driver's License - Eligibility to work in New Zealand
