We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Spray Operator / Orchard Hand to join our team. This role involves the operation of agricultural and horticultural machinery for clearing, cultivating land, and managing crop cycles through spraying and other orchard care activities. The successful candidate will ensure the safe and effective application of agrichemicals, adhering to all relevant safety protocols and compliance standards. When not spraying, duties include mowing, weed control, machinery maintenance, property upkeep, and tree husbandry.
Key Responsibilities: - Operate and maintain horticultural plant and machinery for spraying, cultivation, and harvest activities. - Apply agrichemicals safely and accurately, following SOPs and regulatory compliance, including proper PPE use and signage placement. - Perform daily maintenance checks and routine greasing of vehicles and machinery; report any issues promptly. - Assist with general orchard duties such as mowing, weed spraying, tree care, and property maintenance. - Communicate effectively with management regarding supply needs and operational updates. - Adhere to and promote a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations. - Complete and implement job sheets efficiently and accurately. - Undertake additional tasks as reasonably required to support orchard operations.
Job Requirements
- Strong commitment to health and safety with a safety-first attitude guiding all work activities. - Minimum of 3 years’ experience in spraying crops or operating horticultural plant and machinery. - Flexibility to work varied hours, particularly around spraying schedules and maintenance duties. - Grow Safe certification is highly advantageous. - Mechanical aptitude with the ability to operate and maintain a broad range of machinery and tools. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with team members and stakeholders. - Positive attitude with a proven ability to foster a supportive and collaborative team environment. - Proficient in accurately implementing and communicating job sheets. - Must have own reliable transportation to and from the worksite.
