Class 5 Heavy Truck Driver

A transport company is seeking an experienced and responsible Class 5 Truck Driver to join their team. This is a key role involving driving between Whangarei and Auckland transporting finished goods and raw materials between manufacturing sites, retail stores, and distribution centres.

About the Role:

You’ll be responsible for the safe and timely delivery of goods, performing routine vehicle checks, and ensuring all compliance, documentation, and safety standards are met. Flexibility with working hours and a strong sense of responsibility are essential, as the role includes early starts, varied shifts, and occasional weekend work.

Key Responsibilities:

- Transport finished goods and raw materials over land to/from manufacturing plants, retail outlets, and distribution centres

- Plan routes effectively and meet strict delivery schedules

- Load and unload trucks safely and efficiently

- Inspect vehicles daily for mechanical issues and perform basic preventative maintenance

- Operate vehicles into position for optimal loading/unloading

- Keep accurate logs of work/rest hours, kilometres driven, and delivery records

- Ensure all documentation is correct and complete (e.g., loading documents, fuel and toll receipts)

- Follow all traffic laws and transport regulations, including size, weight, and route guidelines

Adhere to company policies and safety procedures

What the company is looking for:

- Valid Class 5 Licence - Minimum 2 years' experience in towing - Physically fit and capable of manual handling tasks - Strong time management, communication, and customer service skills - Able to take instruction and work both independently and as part of a team - Clear Ministry of Justice check - Able to pass a drug test – no history of drug use or alcohol-related driving offenses - High level of awareness and commitment to health & safety - Flexible with working hours and available for occasional weekend work - Reliable, motivated, and professional at all times
