Night Shift Cook/Caregiver – Sunday Nights

This is a temporary role with a potential for permanent work. We are looking for a reliable and capable individual to cover a temporary Sunday night shift at a rest home that provides care for residents with mental health conditions and drug and alcohol-related issues. This is an 8-hour overnight shift, and while the role is temporary, it has the potential to lead to permanent work for the right person.

About the Role: The main responsibility for this position is cooking. You will be preparing meals for the following day using a set menu and recipes. In addition, you will provide support to the on-duty night caregiver by assisting with caregiving tasks as needed.

Location - New Brighton Key Responsibilities:

Prepare and cook meals according to a set menu, following recipes accurately

Ensure food safety and kitchen hygiene standards are maintained

Prepare and store meals for the next day

Support the night caregiver with general caregiving duties, including resident wellbeing checks and assistance as required

Maintain a calm, respectful, and safe environment for all residents

Job Requirements:

Proven cooking skills and confidence in following recipes

Ability to work independently during night hours

A compassionate and non-judgmental approach, particularly toward people with mental health and addiction challenges

Some experience in caregiving or residential support work is an advantage

Reliability and a strong work ethic

Good communication and basic record-keeping skills
