About this job
Loading and Unloading: Accurately load and unload parcels and freight into and from the delivery vehicle, ensuring items are secured to prevent damage during transit. This often involves handling items up to 25-30kg. Route Planning and Delivery: Plan and follow the most efficient delivery routes using navigation tools to ensure timely deliveries and adherence to schedules. Timely Deliveries: Deliver a high volume of parcels and documents to various locations, meeting strict deadlines and time windows. Customer Interaction: Interact professionally and courteously with customers, confirming deliveries, obtaining signatures, and addressing any delivery-related queries or concerns. Record Keeping and Administration: Maintain accurate records of deliveries, collections, and payments (where applicable), using electronic scanning devices (e.g., ePODs) and completing necessary paperwork. Vehicle Maintenance: Conduct routine pre-start vehicle checks to ensure the vehicle is in good working order and report any mechanical issues or damage promptly. Maintain vehicle cleanliness. Safety and Compliance: Adhere strictly to all New Zealand Road Code regulations, company safety policies, and transport legislation, including rules for hazardous goods if applicable. Problem Solving: Proactively address and resolve any delivery issues, such as incorrect addresses or recipient unavailability, and communicate effectively with dispatch or base operations. Cash Handling (if required): Accurately collect and process payments for Cash on Delivery (COD) consignments. Availability: Big hours - Early starts.
Job Requirements
Driver's Licence: A full and current New Zealand Class 1 driver's licence with a clean driving record. Must be able to drive a manual vehicle. Physical Fitness: Ability to lift and carry heavy parcels (up to 25-30kg) repetitively, and to work in varying weather conditions. Geographical Knowledge: Strong knowledge of local road networks and the ability to read maps and use GPS effectively. Area covered is generally Rolleston and Templeton area. Communication Skills: Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills for effective customer interaction. Organisational Skills: Highly organised with strong time management abilities to manage multiple deliveries and pickups efficiently. Reliability and Punctuality: A consistent track record of dependability and commitment to meeting deadlines. Attention to Detail: Meticulous in sorting parcels, checking addresses, and completing paperwork accurately. Problem-Solving Abilities: Ability to think on your feet and resolve issues independently. Background Checks: Must be able to pass a police check and drug test. Dangerous Goods (D) Endorsement Forklift Endorsement and Current OSH cert.
