Are you a recent veterinary graduate or someone with a background in animal science, looking to step into a meaningful and essential role in New Zealand’s meat processing industry? We’re seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join a North Canterbury-based team working in a Veterinarian-Assisted Slaughter and Compliance role as a Micro Facility Manager.
About the Role: This is a hands-on position involving the humane slaughter and supervision of livestock for consumption in line with MPI regulations. You will be trained and certified to carry out both ante-mortem and post-mortem veterinary checks, as well as manage the full slaughter process in MPI-registered micro facilities. Key responsibilities could include, but not be limited to: • Performing and supervising the humane slaughter of approximately 4 beasts per hour (after training) • Carrying out vet-certified ante and post-mortem inspections • Preparing animals for transport and ensuring animal welfare throughout the process • Overseeing animal handling and transport between micro facilities and processing sites • Managing compliance documentation and micro facility registration with MPI

Job Requirements
Ideally you will be a graduate veterinarian or someone with equivalent qualifications or experience in animal health or livestock management. You should be willing to undergo full training for MPI certification and be confident handling livestock in a professional, humane, and compliant manner. You must be flexible with travel between micro facility sites and processing facilities. Strong attention to detail and a commitment to food safety and animal welfare is crucial. You must hold a full driver’s licence and be confident towing trailers. While most transport will be outsourced, you may be required to assist at times, so truck licence a bonus, but not essential. Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and ideally able to pass Ministry of Justice check.
