Heywood Orchards is a third-generation family-owned company, growing apples, pears, and kiwifruit across a number of orchards in beautiful Motueka. We are seeking a competent, hardworking individual with relevant experience to join our team.
As Compliance and Health & Safety (H&S) Manager at Heywood Orchards you will play a critical role in ensuring all orchard operations meet regulatory and internal standards. This role is responsible for maintaining compliance with industry certifications (e.g., GlobalG.A.P., GRASP, LEAF), leading our health and safety culture, and supporting the team to meet our commitment to safe, sustainable, and ethical practices. This is a proactive, hands-on role that combines office-based compliance administration with active engagement on the orchard. You will be a confident and approachable person with an ability to relate well to a wide range of people. You will be proactive and organised with strong attention to detail and have an appreciation for working outdoors. Ideally, you will have a background in compliance, health and safety or risk management in a horticultural or agricultural setting and be comfortable working with digital compliance systems. A clean driver's licence is essential. The nature of an orchard role means hours will need to be flexible at times and include some weekend work. Core hours for this role will be negotiated and agreed with the successful applicant. Job Requirements
Key Skills and Attributes: - Strong understanding of New Zealand health and safety legislation. - Proven experience in a compliance, H&S, or risk management role, preferably in a horticulture or agricultural setting. - Competent with digital compliance systems. - Excellent communication skills, working cooperatively with others to ensure best outcomes. - Strong attention to detail and organisational skills. - Proactive, approachable, and confident working with staff at all levels. - An awareness of diversity. Desirable Qualifications: Certificate or diploma in Health & Safety, Compliance, or related field. Internal Auditor training or GlobalG.A.P. compliance experience. Growsafe and/or Approved Handler certificate. First Aid Certificate. The qualifications above are desirable but not essential if you have good relevant H&S/Compliance experience. Training can be provided in Growsafe and First Aid. Essential Qualification: Current full NZ driver’s licence
