Christchurch City College is looking for an Education Specialist – Pumanawa, Alternative Education (AE). At Pumanawa, we support young, talented youth aged 13 to 16 years old to re-engage with education and learning.
We are looking for an experienced tutor who understands what it takes to engage with at-risk youth. You will be preparing, delivering and assessing learners along their study journey.
As Education Specialist, your role will be to oversee the delivery of the teaching component of the programme, typically daily from 10am to 12pm as well as helping focus our akonga on building healthy study habits to achieve some educational outcomes during their time with us.
Our wharekura is in the heart of Christchurch and provides a welcoming atmosphere for students and staff from Canterbury and around the world.
Key Responsibilities: - To support students to re-engage in learning. - To develop, deliver and assess the academic component of the programme. - To use inquiry, collaborative problem-solving and professional learning to improve impact on the learning and achievement of all akonga. - To develop a culture that is focused on learning, and is characterised by respect, inclusion, empathy, collaboration and safety (our Kaupapa). - To design learning based on curriculum and pedagogical knowledge, assessment information and an understanding of each learner’s strengths, interests, needs, identities, languages and cultures. - To teach and respond to learners in a knowledgeable and adaptive way to progress their learning at an appropriate depth and pace. - To contribute to the wider culture of the institution including marketing and promotion events as required - To maintain resources, documentation, and assessment material in line with the institution and AE compliance obligations. - To engage in professional development as required to maintain currency in teaching, assessment, pastoral care or related areas.
Job Requirements
- Relevant qualification in literacy and numeracy (NZCALNE). - Experience with alternative education or community/youth work- especially with at-risk youth. - Experience in developing individual learning or behaviour plans to help engagement in learning. - Proficient user of MS Office 365 including SharePoint. - Ability to operate within a Student Management System like WiseNet. - Understand the Education (Pastoral Care of Tertiary and International Learners) Code of Practice 2021 and support learners pastoral care needs. - Must pass MOJ and Drug testing.
