Skilled Machine Operator

Are you an experienced operator looking for a hands-on role with plenty of variety? Our civil construction company based in Horowhenua is on the lookout for a skilled Operator to take on small to medium sized site civil construction projects. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and enjoys the challenge of managing both machinery and people on the ground.

About the Role: You will primarily operate a 6T excavator, but this role goes beyond machinery and pulling levers. You’ll play a key role in ensuring that projects are delivered efficiently, safely, and to a high standard. This is a varied and handson role where you'll have the opportunity to take real ownership of your work across both residential and commercial sites. It’s not a “bum in seat” role we’re after someone who isn’t afraid to get stuck in and support the crew with physical tasks when needed. No two days will be the same, one day might be spent operating equipment, the next could involve site prep or leading a small team. Weekend or night shifts may occasionally be required, along with the potential for out of town work.

What We’re Looking For: Proven experience operating 3 12T excavators and leading small teams onsite

A valid Class 2, 4, or 5 driver’s licence (or equivalent) with a clean record At least 5 years’ experience in civil construction (commercial experience a plus) Physically fit and willing to lend a hand with manual labour Strong organisational skills and commitment to maintaining a tidy, efficient site and work environment. Great communication skills and the ability to keep projects running smoothly Solid understanding of health & safety standards in a construction environment. Flexibility to work nights, weekends, or travel when required A proactive attitude and the ability to adapt to changing priorities What We Offer:
