Youth Worker

Christchurch City: We are looking for a passionate and dedicated Youth Worker to support students in an Alternative Education (AE) setting. This role focuses on re-engaging students in learning, promoting well-being, and fostering a positive, inclusive environment.
The key focus of this role is to develop and deliver suitable physical education training to students participating in AE. We don’t necessarily need a registered fitness coach but certainly someone who understands physical fitness and can engage with 14 to 16 year-olds in the delivery of daily fitness sessions lasting for 2 hours.
Key Responsibilities: • Support students in their learning and encourage school attendance. • Build strong, respectful relationships to create a safe and inclusive environment. • Assist with pastoral care and well-being support. • Develop and facilitate physical activities tailored to students’ strengths and needs. • Maintain accurate student records and assist with attendance tracking. • Ensure compliance with NZQA Code of Practice and institutional policies. • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and external agencies. • Utilise digital systems such as Wisenet and Moodle for student management. • Engage in professional development and uphold high standards of professionalism.
Job Requirements
-Confident in driving a van (12 seater). - Proven experience worked with youth in past - Ability to develop and deliver suitable physical education training to students participating in AE. - Ability to plan and facilitate engaging programs. - Problem-solving and conflict-resolution abilities. - Knowledge of youth development principles and challenges affecting young people. - Passion for supporting youth and promoting positive development. - Understand and comply with NZQA Code of Practice (Code) requirements with regards to students’ admissions, enrolments, records keeping, U-18 students’ management and pastoral care. - Proficient in using MS Office applications particularly with Word, Outlook, Excel, and Power Point. - Proficient in using or willing to be learn and be proficient in students’ management system (Wisenet) and learning management system (Moodle). - Must pass MOJ and Drug testing.
- Days of work
- Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays 12.30pm to 2.30pm, and Wednesday 9.30am to 2.30pm. (Friday Only for staff cover, if required) (11 hours per week)
