Nursery Worker - Tractor Operator and Machinery

Are you looking for Nursery work? A Waimea Plains nursery is looking to recruit a summer team to assist to produce high quality trees for distribution around New Zealand.

4 weeks work starting immediately!

To be considered for this role you will need to be able to work well with others, have a passion for horticulture and cultivation of new plants as well as tolerance to work outdoors in all weather.

Tasks for this role may include, but not limited to: • Chemical weed control using knap sacks or walk behinds or by hand weeding • Tree support including canes in, strings, disbudding, stripping, lateralling, tapening and preparation prior to lifting • Stoolbeds - sawdusting, weeding, harvesting, de-spiking and pin down • Planting and associated tasks • Preparation for lifting including canes out, irrigation out and wrenching • Lifting and associated tasks • Propagation, cuttings and grading • Despatch • Scionwood processing, pruning, Budding, Grafting and tying • Heading • Tractor driving – mowing, stoolbed harvester, tripod weeds, sawdust spreader, sawdust mounder, fertilizer spreader, planting or lifting • Driving – moving staff or product from one part of the nursery to another • Forklift driving as required • Operating the planting laser, table saw, or other powered equipment

• Listens carefully and communicates in clear and courteous manner • Acts with honesty, professionalism and in accordance with the organisation’s philosophy • Works hard, has a very good attendance record and is ready to work on time each day, enjoys achieving results, and shows initiative and perseverance • Accepts accountability for own actions • Brings an energetic, “can do” attitude to whatever s/he is involved in • Able to work in all weather • Physically fit - able to lift 20kgs and bend frequently • Able to commute to a rural location - NO PUBLIC TRANSPORT AVAILABLE
