Opportunity is based in Matamata Grooming, brushing, and maintaining the horses’ cleanliness and comfort. Saddling racehorses. Preparing horses for sales. Operating the walker for horses. Turning horses out to paddocks. Observing horse behavior and health, including checking for injuries or signs of illness. Assisting with veterinary visits, farrier services, and other treatments as needed. Reporting any health concerns or abnormalities to management promptly. Mucking out stalls and ensuring clean, hygienic environments. Replacing bedding and maintaining stable supplies. Cleaning and maintaining tack, equipment, and gear to a high standard. Exercising, hand-walking, or lunging horses as required. Assisting with transport preparation and handling horses during loading/unloading. Helping maintain the cleanliness of the facilities, including the stable yard and surrounding areas. Adhering to health and safety protocols to ensure the well-being of both the horses and handlers.

Job Requirements

A minimum of 1 year of experience working as a Track Rider and/or Stablehand. Must be experience in the craft of handling young horses. A strong work ethic with a genuine passion for horse care and welfare. Physical fitness and the ability to perform manual tasks and work outdoors. Strong observational skills and attention to detail when handling and monitoring horses. Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team. Basic knowledge of horse health, behavior, and care practices (preferred but not essential). A positive attitude, reliability, and willingness to learn and take on new challenges.

Days of work
Monday to Friday, 5.30am to 5pm and Saturday and Sunday 6am to 10am and 2.30pm to 4.30pm (30 hours per week)
