Chawla’s Indian Restaurant in Auckland Central is seeking a skilled and creative Indian Chef to join their team on a full-time, permanent basis. You will be required to work independently and cover shifts when staff take leave.
Key responsibilities include: • Preparing food for service and cooking authentic Indian dishes as they are ordered • Training and mentoring junior kitchen staff on how to prepare kebabs using traditional Indian techniques and spices • Upholding high standards of cleanliness, organisation and teamwork in the kitchen • Developing and creating new dishes while maintaining authenticity • Planning menus and specials based on seasonal availability and customer preferences • Maintaining stock, checking the quantity and quality of received products • Establishing controls to minimize food and supply waste • Controlling storage, usage and wastage of bulk raw ingredients used in the kitchen • Supervising and providing junior kitchen staff on-the-job training • Collaborating with management to achieve business goals and maintaining high standards of service
Job Requirements
1. Minimum 2 years' of proven experience as an Indian Chef 2. In-depth knowledge of Indian spices and marination/cooking methods specific to kebabs 3. Physically fit with strong leadership and organisational skills 4. Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment 5. Excellent communication and teamwork skills as you may be required to resolve customer complaints 6. Able to pass a pre-employment drug test and police check 7. Able to speak Hindi and/or Punjabi fluently 8. Hold a restricted driver licence with a reliable transport if residing outside of the CBD

- Monday to Sunday, 11am - 2pm and 5pm - 11pm. (30 hours per week)
