Bay of Islands College is seeking an enthusiastic and committed individual to provide comprehensive support to teaching staff and learners in the STEM curriculum area. A successful candidate to this position, will be able to work across a wide variety of contexts, be collaborative, flexible and must have a passion for supporting rangatahi to achieve their full potential. The chosen candidate will be provided with appropriate training, support and guidance where appropriate. Some of the responsibilities you will encounter in this role include: 1. Organizing and storing all chemicals, substances, fluids and compressed gasses according to the appropriate safety instructions 2. Storing equipment, maintaining equipment and assisting in ordering laboratory supplies 3. Supporting teaching staff with practical setups in classrooms where required 4. Ensuring that all safety guidelines are adhered to so that a positive and tidy learning environment can be maintained 5. Supporting learners in developing scientific literacy and numeracy skills within the classroom space

Job Requirements
To be considered for this role, you will have to be passionate about fostering authentic and meaningful STEM learning experiences, have excellent time management skills and a growth mindset. You must also be comfortable working as part of a diverse team of kaiako and committed to the school’s wider goals and initiatives. Furthermore, a successful candidate will always have the health and safety of our rangatahi at the heart of their practice. The successful candidate will also benefit from a membership to STANZ and a very active network of Science Technicians. A science qualification and experience in handling chemicals and a good understanding of G-suite software is an added bonus when applying for this role. Must be drug free and able to pass police vetting.
