Auckland Emergency Management has an opportunity for a fixed-term full-time Welfare Advisor to join this dedicated and passionate team This role is based in the Auckland city centre with some flexibility to work from home or a Council hub.
Reporting to the Head of Business and Welfare, you will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies, systems, and networks to respond to and recover from emergency events effectively.
As a Welfare Advisor, you will play a critical role in managing the Needs Assessment process and coordinating the registration and provision of essential services such as food, shelter, and household goods during an emergency event.
During an activation, you will assess the impact, determine immediate needs, and support the setup and maintenance of our Civil Defence Centres.
This role will be required to participate in the CDEM on call and stand-by emergency response system, including participating in the 24/7 duty team roster and be required to support emergency response during activation to provide capability to a variety of function leads under the CIMS structure.
You could expect to work on: • Preparing policies and procedures for emergency welfare services for internal and external stakeholders. • Ensuring consistent welfare standards are applied across Auckland with consideration for community and regional risks. • Delivering welfare training and development programmes for areas such as the co-ordination centre, Civil Defence Centres and community-based volunteers
Job Requirements
This role is well-suited to an excellent communicator; both verbally and written. As an Advisor, you will be responsible for translating complex information into clear and concise messages that a diverse range of audiences can easily understand.
Delivering on challenging outcomes, good facilitation skills, competent decision-making and sound judgement will feature in your skill set.
We are specifically looking for: • 5+ years’ experience in emergency management, community engagement or welfare is essential. • Excellent stakeholder management, fostering strong, trusted and collaborative relationships • A current and relevant NZ Driver’s licence is required
