We are looking for people to join our Wellington team as Customs Officers working variable hours.
Variable Hours Customs Officers work flexibility to help manage Wellington's international flight schedule, as well as a variety of other functions in the Customs airport environment.
What you'll do (He aha tau e mahi ana)
• Facilitating passengers and goods in and out of NZ, note taking, writing reports and entering information into our electronic systems • Questioning passengers and undertaking activities such as searching baggage • Processing passengers through Customs, this might have you sitting in a booth for long periods of time or standing up for long periods of time assisting passengers • Ensuring passengers meet immigration requirements and identifying risk that may require further interaction

To be considered for this role, you will be: • looking for part-time work only • willing to work a split shift pattern (including unsociable hours) as a core part of the role • able to work shifts including on weekends, nights and public holidays • flexible and agile around the work you will undertake • confident navigating computer systems • a great communicator and all-round people person
To work for us you must be:
• A New Zealand Citizen or New Zealand Permanent Resident who has resided continuously in New Zealand for the last 5 years and resides in NZ at time of application; • OR a New Zealand Citizen or New Zealand Permanent Resident who has resided in New Zealand for the last 5 years and resides in NZ at time of application, but may have been absent from New Zealand for periods of six or more months within the past five years, preferably in one or more of the following countries: either Australia, Canada, UK or the USA. You will be required to provide overseas police certificates for these periods spent outside of New Zealand. • You must have a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service towards a recommendation of suitability for security clearance at a higher level.
A full NZ Driver's licence is needed for this role.
You will also be required to pass a medical assessment, drug test and have a clear police record.

- Between 40 and 80 hours per pay period (with minimum 40 hours per fortnight). Various hours, depending on flight schedules. (20 hours per week)
