Animal Welfare Inspector
About this job
As an Animal Welfare Inspector you will be expected to deliver a range of work to ensure animal welfare complaints are managed quickly and appropriately. You will require sound legislative knowledge, good problem-solving skills and have excellent communication skills. Each day will provide variety, as you work both in an office and in the field, meeting new people every day, while making a difference in ensuring all aspects of animal welfare compliance across Aotearoa New Zealand.
In this role you will be: • Promoting good animal welfare practices. • Building and sustaining positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. • Having practical working knowledge of the laws under which investigations and compliance activities operate. • Leading or supporting investigations in an enforcement environment (it is desirable to have experience) full training will be provided to the successful applicant. • Ensuring investigation processes and procedures are strictly followed. • Managing animal welfare complaints in the primary production sector. • Preparing prosecution files where required. • Monitoring service providers and licensed establishments for compliance with animal welfare • Working with other Inspectors and Investigators to prepare and present robust prosecution cases.
Job Requirements
You must: • Possess excellent communication skills both written and verbal to establish rapport in the rural community. • Be able to pass a MOJ, drug and alcohol test. • Have or able to obtain a firearms licence. • Full clean driver’s licence. • Ability to on occasions stay out of town. • Have great written skills as you will be required to write reports/findings. • Have farming/animal experience and understand farming terminology or equivalent husbandry qualification.
