Facility Gardener

Experienced and knowledgeable Gardener needed in Kaitaia for residential care facility!

We are looking for experienced gardener to join our team. This is a crucial role in the organisation as the grounds are large and planting needs to be carefully thought out to ensure every area of the gardens shine in every season. The residents like to be able to walk through the gardens and pick flowers year round, and for those that are in hospital or hospice care, seeing the beautiful gardens from their windows is an important part of ensuring their environment is tranquil.

We are looking for a hardworking, committed individual that is passionate about all things plants and gardens. To be successful in attaining this role, you need to have: • A horticulture qualification or proven experience in a similar role. • Understanding of seasonal plantings in our sub-tropical, Far North environment. • Good knowledge of the full plant lifecycle and seasons - from seedlings and bulbs to pruning hedges and roses correctly. • Fit and able to demonstrate you can safely lift/manoeuvre heavy pots/bags/equipment. • Good knowledge of flowers, plants and trees - native and introduced. • Ability to operate mowers, edge trimmers, etc. • Weed spraying and maintenance. • Be creative and understand garden design and layering of plants to ensure maximum enjoyment year-round. • Be willing to get interested residents involved in aspects of gardening.

Ideally you will have at least 2 years experience and a relevant qualification. However, if you are experienced the employer would still like to hear from you.
