HIPPY (Home Interaction Programme for Parents and Youngsters) is a home-based early education programme that helps parents to get their 2-5-year-old children ready for success in education. Tutors support families enrolled on the programme by visiting families in their homes (or virtually) and teach parents/caregivers activities that parents then use to teach their own child. Tutors also support Coordinators at monthly Family Group Meetings, attend weekly training sessions with their Coordinator and meet weekly with their Coordinator to discuss the families they are working with. You will need regular access to a vehicle for work that has a current WOF, Registration and appropriate insurance. Mileage reimbursements are paid according to IRD rates. You may not necessarily have experience in the early childhood education sector, but you will have a passion for working with families with young children. You will need maturity and an understanding of your environment and be able to connect with the local community. You will be a good communicator, have reasonably good reading and writing abilities and of course be comfortable visiting families in their homes. This is a fixed term role during school terms only. Your duties will include:

• Attending initial and weekly training and professional development sessions with your Coordinator. • Attend weekly meetings with your Coordinator to discuss the work of each family. • Assist at Group Meetings every month and encourage parents to attend. • Make regular home visits to deliver workbooks and programme support to whanau on the programme. • Arrange meeting timetables for home visits and keep the Coordinator informed of any changes • Collect weekly reports from families • Keep accurate accountability records, including online timesheets • Prepare weekly materials and equipment to be used during weekly tutor training and home visits. • Equipment, training and support is offered to gain skills prior to engaging with families, with weekly meetings of professional development to roleplay materials together, you must have ability to read, actively engage in roleplay, communicate well, & get along with all walks of life people with no judgement • The role is fixed term until 13 December 2024. There may be opportunities for employment for the 2025 programme year but we can’t guarantee this at this stage. • The role is part-time, minimum 15 hours per week. There is opportunity to increase these hours if caseloads of families in the area grow. The hours can be worked Mondays through Fridays, but Tutors can opt to work set days around other commitments. • Mileage is reimbursed fortnightly at the IRD tiered rates. • Employment can’t be offered until a satisfactory police check (undertaken by our organisation) is returned.

Job Requirements

Have at least a Restricted driver licence and your own reliable vehicle. Have a genuine interest in Early Childhood Education. CV must have at least 2 recent and contactable references listed. Employment is subject to the return of a returned satisfactory police check as per the Children’s Act. - Reading, verbal communication and skills - Restricted/ Full - Driver License. Suitable car for travel- must maintain Insurance, WOF, Rego - Police Vetting required prior to employment as working with Family and young children - Online access – access to the internet – work phone wifi – network coverage in their area - Confident going to client homes - Home based work base, that communications are made often via internet. Online capabilities and skills. Online Privacy course will be provided to complete upon employment.

Part-time, fixed term position during School terms only through to December 2024. Minimum 15 hours per week with opportunity to increase depending on caseload. Opportunities for the 2025 Programme may be available.
