THE VESSELS Factory Trawler Vessel • You will predominately be in the factory processing area of the boat, supporting with processing and packaging of fish. This is a challenging role, and you need to be committed to working hard, having a great attitude, and working as a team in a safety-sensitive environment.
Long Line Vessel • Your duties will vary throughout the trip. You will work in a range of areas that can involve processing the fish, manual handling, baiting hooks, deck duties and other duties specified by the crew. The work involved is a lot more labour intensive so requires strong fitness, stamina, and an open mind to help out where is necessary.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION You will work on a contract, with a minimum daily rate. Vessel operations run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and shifts are generally 8 hours on 8 hours off. The fleet is Timaru based so you must be able to get yourself to Timaru, however some travel expenses from New Plymouth will be covered. The factory boats run a 12 weeks on and 6 weeks off roster.
The average annual salary is between $60k-$70k – this can increase as you develop more in the role. Once on board your living environment is a shared cabin with all food provided, as well as work gear and bedding. Wi-Fi is available and some vessels have fitness equipment for you to use during downtime. All vessels have laundry services.
