Orchard Hand/Cadetship
About this job
General Orchard Hands are required for full-time permanent roles. Your work could include truck driving, spraying, tractor driving, orchard work, or even helping to supervise small teams from time to time. There might be packhouse and yard work during the harvest season. We will be looking to develop your hands-on experience and knowledge of apple and kiwifruit. The work is varied and changes throughout the year. The right person could move into a supervisory role and help us manage our orchard teams.
We also offer Horticultural Cadet positions where you will be studying NZQA level 3 & 4 qualifications with the Primary Industry Training Organisation (PITO). Most of your learning is hands-on as you work in the orchards but there are classroom training days too.
Having horticultural experience in pip fruit and kiwifruit, and qualifications such as Growsafe would be an advantage, but we can provide full training to the right people. We will adjust the role to suit your experience and skills. This is mostly outdoor work, and weather dependent, but hours will generally be 7.30am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday and occasional Saturdays. You must be reliable, physically fit and have reliable transport.
