Vineyard Machinery Operator Supervisor

A family-owned Nelson winery specialising in premium grape and wine production, from planting to is looking for a hands-on person with experience in on-farm staff coordination to help lead a team of vineyard staff. This is a supervisory role to support our vineyard manager; with the expectation you will also be able to jump in and operate tractor machinery as required, but with a focus on helping with the planning, management and actioning of daily vineyard operations. Overseeing and hands-on involvement with our tractor operators and working to manage the changing seasonal work flows – from winter vineyard maintenance (post driving and wire repair), spring and summer spraying, and operations during the grape harvest. Growsafe certification and practical application experience a plus.
Suitable for a reliable person, who can organise and arrange a team to work to their optimum in a safe and efficient manner. The successful applicant will be physically fit, and able to lead by example to get the very best from their staff.
The successful applicant will bring management experience from other roles in farming, agriculture or horticulture. Full training will be given if vineyard/viticultural work is not your background.
Job Requirements
The successful applicant will:
have strong leadership experience in the agriculture/horticulture/viticulture industry and be able to operate tractors and other farm machinery – mowers, post drivers etc be physically fit – and hands-on be able to lead and motivate a team by encouraging best output show excellent planning and efficiency in all tasks be able to communicate clearly and effectively to ensure a good days work by all have flexibility to work extra hours to meet operational and seasonal needs be a team player with the ability to delegate and manage tasks to completion enjoy working in a focused and result driven team take accountability and pride in all tasks undertaken Growsafe certification and practical application experience a plus have NZ residency be mechanically minded be confident and driven to work independently HT licence is an advantage! a current (full) driver’s licence

- Mon - Fri, Some weekend work may be required. Hours to be worked between 7:30 and 5:00pm. (40 hours per week)
