About us A residential youth service near Rotorua provides a safe, secure and supportive environment where young people can make positive changes and get their lives back on track. This service supports young people aged 13 - 17 who are involved in the justice system. The focus is always on safety and wellbeing while helping young people build a better future. Staff are not guards, they are mentors, role models and coaches who guide and support daily development. A range of activities are offered to support learning and growth. These may include cooking, sports, games, cultural activities, and community led sessions. About the role Residential Youth Workers play a key role in supporting young people to grow and develop. They build positive relationships and help young people develop skills, behaviours and attitudes needed to contribute to their families and communities. Key responsibilities include:
Maintaining a safe and secure environment for young people, staff and the community Supporting personal growth with a focus on health, education, training and employment Encouraging positive relationships with family and community Supporting engagement with services and programmes Working as part of a team to guide behaviour change
This is a full time role working on a roster. Shifts include mornings, evenings, weekends and public holidays. This is a 24 / 7 environment and not a standard 9 - 5 role.
Job Requirements
What you will bring
Ability to build positive relationships with a wide range of people Good communication skills, both written and verbal Experience in customer service, community work, coaching or working with young people is helpful Study in areas such as psychology, social sciences, social work, sport, arts or teaching is an advantage but not required Life experience and a practical approach are highly valued Willingness to work rostered shifts across all days Physical fitness to safely engage with young people Full clean driver licence required Knowledge of Maori culture or language is an advantage but not essential

Right to work in New Zealand Ability to meet safety checking and police vetting requirements under applicable legislation
