Kitchen Lead/Manager

A beloved, unique, friendly community-focused cafe in the heart of Awapuni, is looking for an experienced Kitchen Lead or Manager to be the heart beat of the kitchen. This is a full-time role with regular rostered weekend shifts (daytime hours), and it's perfect for someone who thrives in a warm, creative environment and takes real pride in consistent, quality food.
You will be doing
• Leading day to day kitchen operations across our cafe menu, cabinet food, and a select range of out catering • Managing food preparation, presentation, and quality to the standard our community has come to love • Leading, mentoring, and rostering a small, close-knit kitchen team • Managing stock, ordering, food costs, and waste minimisation • Ensuring full compliance with food safety and health & safety requirements • Working collaboratively with our front of house team for smooth, seamless service
Job Requirements
• Minimum 3 years' experience in a Head Chef, Kitchen Lead, or Kitchen Manager role • Strong leadership skills — you know how to bring out the best in your team • Solid understanding of kitchen operations: food safety, stock control, and cost management • Experience with cafe-style menus and cabinet food (outcatering experience a bonus) • Reliable availability for regular rostered weekend day shifts — this is essential • Applicants must have the legal right to work in New Zealand
Relevant qualifications in Culinary Arts or Hospitality Management are an advantage, but your experience and attitude matter most.
