A Business is expanding its mahi in the Wellington region with the launch of Whitiora - Out of Gate Complex Needs, a new reintegration service supporting men and women with complex needs as they transition from prison back into the community.

Whitiora delivers two key programmes Out of Gate, Complex Needs and Remand Reintegration, both grounded in whanau centred practice and strong, relational support. Our team walks alongside tangata released from prison to build stability, connection and hope.

We are looking for two full time Kaiarahi / Navigators.

As a Kaiarahi / Navigator, you will play a key role in the operational delivery of these services, providing intensive, strengths-based reintegration support to people with complex needs who are in custody, preparing for release, or transitioning back into our community.

You’ll contribute to effective service delivery through high-quality navigation, professional practice, and strong collaboration with Corrections, community partners and your colleagues. Your mahi will support culturally responsive, whanau-centered reintegration pathways that improve participant outcomes, reduce reoffending, and enhance community safety.

The role is primarily one-to-one, working alongside participants and their whanau while ensuring practice aligns with contractual expectations, professional standards, and our values.

Key responsibilities

• Provide intensive, one-to-one navigation and reintegration support • Complete comprehensive reintegration assessments and develop individualised plans • Support participants across the six pillars of reintegration, including housing and accommodation, employment, education and training, health and wellbeing, life skills and financial capability, and whanau and community connections • Advocate for participants and support access to identification, income, housing and services • Maintain regular engagement pre and post release, particularly during the critical first six months • Build and maintain strong relationships with Corrections, iwi, NGOs and community providers • Maintain accurate case notes, plans and reporting in line with contractual requirements • Uphold kaupapa Maori values and Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles in all mahi

Job Requirements

About you

• Experience in social services, justice, reintegration, or community support • Confident working with people experiencing complex and multiple needs • Builds strong, respectful relationships and works in a non-judgemental, mana-enhancing way • Excellent organisation, documentation and time-management skills • Culturally competent, with a genuine commitment to tikanga Maori and kaupapa Maori practice • Resilient, flexible, and comfortable working across prison and community settings • Full, clean New Zealand driver licence • Ability to meet Corrections security and Police vetting requirements • A relevant Level 4 qualification (or higher) in social services, health, or a related field is desirable • Will need to pass a pre-employment MOJ check and Drug test • Will need to have an up to date CV

Days of work
Mon-Fri 8am 5.00pm but on call roster system but won’t work every weekend (40 hours per week)

$68,000 – $76,000 per year
