Youth Support Worker

We are looking for compassionate and reliable Youth Support Workers to support young people aged 16 to 18 living in a residential care environment. This position suits someone calm, patient, and committed to helping rangatahi build confidence, independence, and positive life skills.
You will be supporting young people experiencing social, behavioural, mental health, family, or community challenges. Your work will involve helping them develop life skills, work toward personal goals, and maintain a safe and stable living environment.
This is a casual role with hours based on your availability, with the possibility of moving into part time or full time depending on youth placements.
Key Responsibilities: • Build supportive relationships with young people and their whanau • Provide day to day mentoring and emotional support • Support youth to develop life skills such as routines, hygiene, budgeting, and independence • Assist with access to education, employment, healthcare, and community services • Maintain accurate case notes and incident reports • Participate in care planning and goal setting with the wider team • Promote culturally safe practice and uphold Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles • Respond to challenging behaviours and crisis situations • Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all young people • Work collaboratively with colleagues, agencies, and community providers • May be required to transport youth from time to time
Shifts and Hours: • Hours are flexible and depend on your availability • Live in shifts of up to 72 hours (most commonly 48 hours) • Shorter shifts of 8-12 hours depending on the needs of the youth • Overnight hours during live in shifts are paid at minimum wage • Accommodation is provided during live in shifts

Job Requirements
• NZ Certificate in Health and Wellbeing Level 4 or equivalent qualification in youth work, mental health, social services, or community support • Previous experience working with youth or vulnerable populations preferred • Full NZ Driver Licence and reliable transport • Able to pass MOJ, Police vetting, and drug testing • Must be eligible to work in New Zealand
