As a cane trainer, you’ll work as part of a team to train the new season’s canes using the correct techniques provided by your supervisor.
Your tasks will include:
Cutting and pulling out old canes. Tying up every new cane securely (taking care not to break any). Removing dibs. Marking and reporting any broken posts or issues with the trellis system. You’ll receive guidance from a Quality Supervisor to ensure work is carried out to the required standard. Gloves and protective gear will be provided and must be used for your safety.
This role is ideal for people who are practical, enjoy hands-on outdoor work, and take pride in supporting the growth of premium New Zealand boysenberries for 5-6 weeks
Job Requirements
Attention to detail – ties up every new cane securely, ensuring correct spacing and support.
Careful handling – avoids breaking new canes while removing old ones and training growth.
Practical, hands-on ability – confident using tools and tying techniques safely and effectively.
Consistency – maintains high standards of cane training across multiple orchard rows.
Observation skills – identifies, marks, and reports any broken posts or trellis issues.
Teamwork – works efficiently alongside others to complete training tasks.
Ability to follow instructions – listens to and applies guidance from the Quality Supervisor.
Physical fitness and stamina – comfortable with repetitive outdoor tasks in varying weather conditions.
Commitment to safety – uses gloves and protective gear as required and follows orchard safety practices.
Positive attitude – reliable, motivated, and takes pride in supporting strong vine growth for the next harvest.
- Days of work
- 8.00am and 4.30pm Monday – Friday, Saturday as required. (40 hours per week)
