Track Rider/Stablehand
About this job
Track Rider/Stablehand is responsible for assisting with the daily care, exercise, and management of horses within the racing stable. This role requires reliability, horse handling experience
Key Responsibilities
Track Riding • Ride horses during morning trackwork and exercise sessions • Follow trainer instructions regarding pace and work requirements
Horse Care • Grooming, washing, rugging, and general horse presentation • Saddling and unsaddling horses • Feeding and watering horses • Assisting with veterinary, farrier, and treatment procedures
Stable Duties • Cleaning boxes, yards, gear, and stable areas • Maintaining tidy and safe work environments • Handling and moving horses safely around the property
Race & Trial Support • Assisting at race meetings, jump-outs, and trials when required
Job Requirements
Skills & Experience
Preferred: • Previous horse handling and track riding experience • Ability to ride work to trainer instructions • Understanding of racing stable routines and safety practices
Personal Attributes: • Reliable and punctual • Strong work ethic • Calm around horses • Team player with good communication skills • Own Reliable Transport, full licence • Must have an updated CV • Must pass drug test • Minor convictions are on a case by case
Assistance to gain NZTR Trackwork License and jockey apprenticeship maybe available to the right candidate
