Apple Orchard Labourers Needed – Pendarves, Ashburton

We’re currently expanding our apple orchard in Pendarves, Ashburton and are looking for physically fit and reliable individuals to join us in a variety of hands on roles on a fixed term contract.

We are based 26km north east of Ashburton.

As we move into winter pruning—an essential stage in preparing the trees for strong spring growth—we need people who can carry out repetitive pruning movements with accuracy and attention to detail. If you enjoy working outdoors and want to be part of a supportive team, we’d love to hear from you.

Key Duties Include: Winter Pruning • Carry out pruning tasks under supervision to encourage spring growth.

Tree Planting • Prepare planting sites, ensuring correct spacing, depth, & alignment according to orchard layout. • Handle young trees carefully to avoid root or stem damage. • Backfill soil and secure trees to promote strong establishment.

Tree Painting • Apply protective coatings to trunks to prevent pest damage. • Ensure even coverage and reapply as needed throughout the season. • Monitor painted trees for signs of stress or damage.

Tube Tying • Secure trees with ties to guide upright growth and prevent leaning. • Adjust or remove tubes as trees mature to avoid restriction.

What We’re Looking For: • Physically capable of repetitive outdoor labour in all weather conditions • Positive attitude and willingness to learn • An eye for detail and accuracy • Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team • Previous orchard or horticulture experience is a bonus—but not essential • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test • You must be in New Zealand and eligible to work for the full period of the contract.
