Experienced Silviculture Operator

We are seeking an experienced Silviculture Operator to join our hardworking forestry team. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in high-quality work, and is committed to safe forestry practices. The successful applicant will play a key role in planning, carrying out, and overseeing a wide range of silviculture operations while providing leadership and technical guidance on site.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: You will be responsible for planning, executing, and overseeing forestry operations, including: - Planning and coordinating silviculture activities using job prescriptions, maps, and work plans to confirm work requirements and quality standards - Delivering consistently high productivity and quality across operations such as planting, release spraying, pruning, thinning, and regeneration work - Providing technical guidance and on-site leadership, and supporting supervision of other workers - Leading or contributing to tailgate meetings and health and safety briefings, ensuring full compliance with forestry safety systems - Mixing, applying, storing, and disposing of agrichemicals in accordance with regulations, certification requirements, and best practice - Carrying out quality checks, plotting, and assessments to measure performance against job prescriptions and production standards - Mentoring new or less experienced workers and supporting skill development within the team - Developing vegetation firefighting skills and being available for fire standby and wildfire callouts during fire season - Operating LUVs, quad bikes, and other forestry vehicles to transport workers, materials, and tree stock - Using a wide range of specialised forestry tools and equipment, including chainsaws, ladders, scrub bars, knapsack sprayers, poison applicators, fire pumps, hoses, and waterway equipment
Job Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will have: - NZQCF Level 4 qualification in forestry or silviculture, or working towards this OR A minimum of three (3) years relevant forestry experience - A strong understanding of forestry health and safety practices - Proven ability to work effectively in a team and follow operational instructions - A positive attitude, reliability, and a strong work ethic - A current driver licence suitable for transporting workers and equipment - Willingness and ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions - Pre-employment drug testing is mandatory including ongoing random drug and alcohol testing may be required in line with company health and safety policies - Applicants must be physically fit and capable of undertaking demanding manual work safely
