About this job

An East Tamaki based employer is looking for experienced tradespersons in heavy structural steel fabrication and welding (Certified Fabricator/Welder). They specialise in custom heavy structural projects, working with steel from 12-60mm thick. Key Responsibilities: • Report directly to the Foreman and work collaboratively within the team • Carry out workshop and on-site duties, including fitting, joining, welding, and repairing metal and other weldable materials • Apply appropriate welding techniques in line with product specifications and production schedules • Interpret and work from detailed workshop drawings accurately • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised work environment • Assist with deliveries and collections as required

Skills & Experience: • Proven experience in heavy structural steel fabrication and welding • Current welding certifications in: o MIG (FCAW) o Stick (MMAW) o TIG • Ability to confidently read and interpret technical/workshop drawings • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship

Job Requirements

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English • Current and valid welding certifications/tickets • NZQA qualification in Fabrication and/or Welding • Minimum of 2 years’ welding experience or experience in a related field • Experience in heavy equipment manufacturing is advantageous • Physically fit and capable of performing manual work • Full, clean Class 1 Driver Licence with reliable transport • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test and Ministry of Justice (MOJ) check • Solid work history with recent, contactable references

This is a physically demanding role requiring you to be on your feet for extended periods (up to 10 hours per day). Flexibility to work additional hours, including up to six days per week, may be required depending on workload.
