Kaimahi / Caregiver (Children’s Worker) Locations: Hawke’s Bay (with travel across the wider Kahungunu region as required)
About the Role: As a Kaimahi / Caregiver (Children’s Worker), you will play a vital role in supporting the wellbeing of tamariki and Rangatahi in care. Working within whanau home settings, you will provide day-to-day care, emotional support, and a safe, stable, and judgement-free environment.
Key Responsibilities - Whare Operations: Provide daily care, including meal preparation for tamariki Maintain a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment Support structured routines and daily activities Implement and follow individual care plans (“All About Me”) Supervise tamariki appropriately at all times Adhere to tikanga, kawa, and whare policies Ensure equipment and resources are safe and functional
Safety and Planning: Maintain a current First Aid Certificate Understand each child’s care plan, including medical and dietary needs Use de-escalation techniques (MAPA) while ensuring personal safety Identify, manage, and report risks appropriately Ensure safe supervision practices at all times
Transporting Tamariki: Safely transport tamariki when required Maintain accurate records of travel and communication Ensure all safety protocols (e.g., seatbelts) are followed Plan for resources and wellbeing needs during outings
Cultural Competence: Apply Te Ao Maori practices including karakia, waiata, and hui Uphold values such as Whakamana Whanau and Mana Tamariki Work respectfully with whanau, hapu, iwi, and community stakeholders
Shift Planning and Reporting: Participate in handovers, planning, and debrief sessions Complete and submit daily shift reports and incident documentation Communicate effectively with team members and management Ensure staffing ratios and safety standards are maintained

Job Requirements
Experience working with tamariki, Rangatahi, or within a caregiving/support role is desirable but not required. Strong understanding of or willingness to learn Te Ao Maori practices Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to remain calm and supportive in challenging situations Full driver’s licence Current First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain) Ability to pass drug test and MOJ checks Flexible, with the ability to work varied hours, including overnight stays as required Have a updated CV
