About this job

This position is based out of the Takanini, with callouts to sites within Auckland and some part pickups required. A work vehicle will be supplied.

This role is primarily responsible for the repair and maintenance of automotive and diesel vehicles, plant, and equipment. Duties include performing inspections, running diagnostic tests, and replacing damaged or outdated components.

Key Responsibilities: - Diagnose, service, and repair vehicle electrical systems, including wiring, lighting, alarms, arrow boards, and accessories - Conduct thorough inspections to ensure adherence to safety and quality standards - Work as part of a team with Diesel Mechanics on the maintenance and repair of heavy vehicles and plant (4 & 6 wheelers, compactors, concrete saws, etc.) - Carry out scheduled servicing and repairs identified during WOF inspections - Order parts using purchase orders, maintain packing slips, and keep accurate documentation - Attend vehicle breakdown callouts to sites as required

Skills & Knowledge: - Ability to diagnose faults in specialised vehicles such as Traffic Management Trucks (TMA), Level 1–3 signal boards, HydroVac, and concrete trucks - Broad mechanical knowledge across vehicles, excavators, and small plant - Strong focus on quality, safety, and ability to work independently or as part of a team - Proven problem-solving skills with clear communication and ability to prioritise repairs - Able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment to ensure works continue efficiently

Job Requirements

- Relevant Automotive Technician Qualification (Level 3 or equivalent) and/or a minimum of 3+ years’ proven experience in a Diesel Mechanic role - Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills - Commitment to quality, safety, and teamwork (ConstructSafe and Working at Heights training provided) - Current and valid Class 1 Driver’s Licence (Class 2 preferred; training can be provided) - Must be able to pass pre-employment checks, including a drug and alcohol test, and hold a clean police record (MOJ check required)

Days of work
Monday to Friday, between 7:00am – 5:30pm, with optional Saturday and weekend work available as required. (30 hours per week)
