About this job

We’re looking for a strategic, creative, and purpose-driven Director of Education & Volunteer Engagement to lead and grow education and volunteer initiatives across our wider eco conservation company. This position is being introduced as a 1-year fixed term contract as a pilot programme to assess education initiatives and volunteer programmes. Should the pilot initiatives prove viable, we hope to convert this to a permanent position.

This role is responsible for shaping and delivering engaging education and volunteer programmes that connect people with conservation, restoration, and environmental stewardship. You will work closely with leadership, staff, partners, and communities to design impactful learning experiences and meaningful volunteer pathways, expand outreach opportunities, and ensure our education and engagement initiatives are sustainable, innovative, and aligned with organisational goals.

What You’ll Be Doing: - Lead the development and implementation of education and volunteer engagement strategy across all organisations and programmes - Design, develop, and oversee high-quality education programmes, curriculum, learning experiences, and structured volunteer initiatives - Identify and pursue funding opportunities, partnerships, and revenue streams to support education and volunteer initiatives - Build strong relationships with schools, community groups, sector organisations, and key stakeholders to grow both learning and volunteer participation - Lead and support staff, contractors, and volunteers contributing to education delivery and engagement programmes - Lead and support staff, contractors, and volunteers contributing to education delivery - Develop, implement, and manage volunteer recruitment, retention, and recognition initiatives - Ensure programmes are well-resourced, effectively delivered, financially sustainable, and aligned with organisational objectives - Monitor programme impact and continuously improve delivery through evaluation, innovation, and best-practice approaches - Support education tourism initiatives and develop opportunities that expand audience and volunteer engagement

You’ll Thrive in This Role If You Have: - Strong experience in education and volunteer programme development, leadership, or curriculum design - A passion for conservation, environmental education, or community engagement - Excellent communication and relationship-building skills across diverse audiences - The ability to think strategically while also delivering practical, hands-on outcomes - Experience managing projects, priorities, and resources across multiple initiatives - Confidence seeking funding opportunities and developing sustainable programme models - A collaborative leadership style that motivates and supports teams and partners - A proactive mindset focused on innovation, growth, and continuous improvement - Comfort working in dynamic environments, including outdoor and community-based settings

Job Requirements

- Minimum of Bachelor of Education, Graduate Diploma, or equivalent degree/work experience in the education sector - 5+ years of work experience in the education sector - Excellent written and oral communication skills - Direct experience with education curriculum development - Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and or equivalent Google programs - Full class 1 license and own reliable transport to work - Up to date presentable CV with two contactable references - Undertake a pre-employment criminal background check and drug test - Physically fit and healthy - Genuine passion for conservation work

Days of work
Generally Mon-Fri however some flexibility to work occasional weekends is required. Hours are TBC. (40 hours per week)
