Excavator Operator

• Carry out weekly machine pre-start checks and report any faults or maintenance issues. • Safely operate excavators to carry out excavation, trenching, lifting, and material handling tasks. • Dig and expose underground services such as gas, water, power, and telecommunications with care and precision. • Excavate trenches to the required depth, grade, and alignment in accordance with site plans and instructions. • Place drainage metal and backfill trenches as required. • Lift and sling pipes, manholes, chambers, and other materials using approved lifting methods. • Work closely with ground crews and spotters to safely carry out excavation, lifting, and trenching operations. • Maintain safe working areas around machinery and ensure safe clearances when operating around personnel, structures, and underground services. • Operate machinery safely and responsibly and report any damage, faults, or maintenance requirements immediately. • Maintain machinery in a clean and serviceable condition. • Assist site crews with general duties when required including spotting trucks, labouring tasks, site clean-up, and supporting drainage works. • Follow site plans, instructions, and daily work targets set by supervisors. • Report hazards, incidents, and near misses in accordance with company Health & Safety procedures.

• Trained competency to operate an Excavator • Have minimum 1 year experience with the following: - Digging around underground services such as water, power, gas, and telecommunications. - Excavating trenches where other staff may be working around or within the trench. - Working with trench shields and shoring systems to ensure safe excavation practices. - Understanding of trench safety requirements and working in excavations. - Lifting and slinging materials into trenches using approved lifting methods. - Operating machinery on live roads and active worksites. - Working in public environments where safety and awareness are critical. - Ability to work as part of a team in a busy site environment. • Must pass all pre-employment checks: police, drug and health tests. • Has own transportation to go to work. • Has WTR endorsement in their Driver's Licence.
