A leading Invercargill-based aluminium boat manufacturer is seeking an experienced Boat Builder/Aluminium Fabricator to join our growing production team. This role involves the fabrication and assembly of high-quality aluminium trailer boats used across both recreational and commercial marine environments. Working alongside skilled boat builders, welders, designers, and production managers, you will help bring precision-built aluminium vessels from raw plate through to finished hulls ready for fit-out. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who takes pride in craftsmanship, enjoys working with aluminium, and has a genuine passion for boats and marine engineering. Our team builds premium vessels designed for New Zealand’s demanding marine conditions, so attention to detail, accuracy, and pride in workmanship are essential.
Key Responsibilities: • Fabrication and assembly of aluminium boat hulls, pontoons, decks, and structural components • Reading and interpreting workshop drawings and fabrication plans • Measuring, marking, and preparing aluminium plate for assembly • Tacking and assembling hull structures ready for welding • Working with jig systems to ensure accurate hull alignment and structure • Grinding, finishing, and preparing aluminium surfaces for final welding and fit-out • Assisting with installation of structural components such as bulkheads, floors, and framing • Collaborating with designers and production teams to ensure accurate build quality • Identifying and resolving fabrication issues during production • Maintaining high quality standards and meeting production timelines • Assisting with prototype builds and new model development when required • Maintaining a clean and safe workshop environment

If you have had previous experience in boat building, aluminium fabrication, or similar trade, physically fit and capable of working in a workshop environment and able to pass pre-employment drug test and Ministry of Justice checks.

Job Requirements
• Experience in aluminium fabrication, boat building, or metal fabrication • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and fabrication plans • Experience working with aluminium plate construction and marine structures • Strong measuring, marking, and layout skills • Familiarity with pontoon boat construction and hull assembly (advantageous) • Experience using workshop tools such as grinders, drills, saws, and fabrication equipment • Understanding of marine-grade aluminium materials and tolerances • Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team • Practical problem-solving ability and strong work ethic • Restricted Class 1 driver licence (minimum) and reliable transport • Relevant trade qualification (boat building, fabrication, engineering) advantageous but not essential for experienced applicants
