Asbestos Removalist and Demolitions

An Asbestos Removal Worker (or specialist) safely removes, handles, and disposes of asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) from buildings, abiding by strict health and safety regulations to prevent exposure. Key duties include setting up containment areas, using specialized tools for removal, wearing full PPE, and following decontamination procedures.
Key Responsibilities & Duties: Site Preparation: Establishing, sealing, and maintaining, contained work areas (often using plastic sheeting and negative air pressure systems). Removal and Handling: Safely removing asbestos materials (insulation, piping, flooring) from ceilings, walls, and pipes, employing wet methods to minimize airborne fiber release. Decontamination: Adhering to strict decontamination protocols, including showering in specialized units before leaving the site. Waste Disposal: Packaging, sealing, labeling, and transporting asbestos waste to authorized disposal facilities. Compliance: Following Health and Safety regulations (e.g., in NZ, the Health and Safety at Work (Asbestos) Regulations 2016) and wearing proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as respirators, suits, and gloves. Communication: Reporting on site risks and keeping detailed records of removal activities. Working Conditions: Often requires wearing restrictive PPE (respirators, masks) for long periods. Work is conducted on demolition or refurbishment sites. High risk of exposure if safety protocols are not strictly followed. Job Requirements
Required Skills and Qualifications: Licenses/Training: Valid Class A or B Asbestos Removal Certificate (depending on the risk level) and a relevant license. Safety Focus: Deep understanding of asbestos hazards and strict adherence to safety protocols. Physical Fitness: Capability to lift heavy materials and work in confined or hot spaces. Equipment Proficiency: Ability to use specialized decontamination and removal tools. Certifications: Often requires a Site Safe Card or similar safety certification. At least restricted licence and own transport.

- Monday to Friday and some overtime. Generally between 8am-5pm potential early starts and late finishes. (30 hours per week)
