As a Field Team Member (Ecological Restoration), you will be part of a dedicated team delivering high-quality ecological restoration and conservation outcomes. This role involves hands-on fieldwork, supporting biodiversity enhancement, pest plant and animal control, habitat restoration, and monitoring activities across a variety of natural environments. You will work outdoors in all weather conditions, often in remote or rugged terrain, and contribute to projects that protect and restore ecosystems for future generations. Key Responsibilities Ecological Restoration Tasks •Conduct pest plant control including chemical application, manual removal, and mechanical methods. •Assist with pest animal control such as trap setting, checking, data recording, and maintenance. •Carry out native planting, plant maintenance, and site preparation for restoration projects. •Implement weed surveillance, follow-up control, and monitoring programmes. •Participate in habitat enhancement work such as erosion control, riparian planting, and wetland restoration. Field Operations •Operate and maintain hand tools, spray gear, traps, machinery, and other field equipment safely and effectively. •Follow all health, safety, and environmental procedures, including proper use of PPE. •Record accurate field data using digital tools or manual methods. •Ensure vehicles, equipment, and materials are used responsibly and maintained to a high standard. (HQ is based in Glen Eden. From there, take the work truck to field sites or if you live closer to the field site you can take your personal vehicle directly to field site).
Job Requirements
Job Requirements As this is a very physically demanding job, candidates will need to be fit and healthy. •At least 2 years of experience in a related field. •Teachable, hardworking with a great sense of humour, grit and resilience. • Passionate about the environment and kaitiakitanga. • Self-motivated, dependable, and proactive. • Positive attitude, adaptability, and willingness to get stuck in. • Respectful, inclusive, and supportive of diverse team members. • Strong awareness of safety for self and others. • Own reliable transport and ideally NZ Full (Clean) Drivers Licence. (Will consider NZ Restricted (Clean) Drivers Licence with view to gain NZ Full Drivers. • No allergies to bees or wasps (if strong candidate, please still refer). There are a lot of bees and wasps on and around the field sites and high risk of being stung. In the sometimes-remote areas unable to access immediate medical assistance unless they carry an epi pen • The employer has advised that a 1-day job trial will be part of the interview process, to give the candidate the opportunity to see firsthand what the role entails.
