An exciting opportunity has arisen for Civil Team Leaders (Foreperson/ Supervisor) to join the team at Hickey Contractors in Rotorua, Bay of Plenty. This is a full-time role where you will be responsible for leading a team of civil construction professionals and ensuring the successful delivery of key projects.

For 50 years, Hickey Contractors has been specialising in 3-waters, subdivisions, construction, and roading around the region - with a strong pipeline of work, we are expanding our specialist teams and we need people who will take us to the next level.

What you'll be doing

Contribute to, and oversee, the day-to-day activities of a civil construction crew, including scheduling, task allocation, some procurement, and monitoring progress to programme and budget

Provide hands-on guidance and support to team members, ensuring they have the necessary resources and skills to complete their work effectively

Monitor and ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations

Liaise with clients, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to coordinate project activities and address any issues or concerns

Participate in the planning and execution of complex civil construction projects, contributing your technical expertise and problem-solving skills

Continuously look for ways to improve efficiency, quality, and safety on the job site

Job Requirements

What we're looking for

Experience (1-3+ years) as a Foreperson or Supervisor in the civil construction industry, or someone exceptional who is looking to step into this new role

Strong technical knowledge and understanding of civil construction processes, including earthworks and utility installations

Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a team

Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications

Demonstrated commitment to safety and a proven track record of implementing effective safety practices

Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing project requirements

With jobs across the North Island in planning, this role will require some travel outside of the region.
