An Education Charitable Trust at Airport Precinct is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic full-time Alternative Education Support Tutor to help with tutoring the Youth in the South Auckland region who are keen to find a career in the Building/Construction industry.

Position Purpose To provide targeted educational and pastoral support to rangatahi in alternative education settings, working alongside the Alternative Education Tutor to deliver individualised learning support, enhance student engagement, and facilitate successful educational outcomes. This role focuses on one-on-one and small group instruction, learning reinforcement, and providing additional support to help vulnerable young people achieve their potential and transition successfully into further education, training, or employment.

Key Responsibilities - Provide one-on-one and small group tutoring to rangatahi. - Support students with assignments, and project work. - Assist students in developing effective study skills, time management, and learning strategies. - Assist the Alternative Education Tutor in developing and reviewing Individual Learning Plans for students. - Monitor and document daily student progress. - Track student attendance, behaviour, and engagement patterns to inform intervention strategies. - Provide pastoral care and build trusting, supportive relationships with students that create a safe learning environment where they feel valued and respected. - Prepare learning materials, resources, and equipment for programme sessions. - Support students during excursions, site visits, and off-site activities, ensuring all health and safety requirements are met. - Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student attendance, progress, achievements, and behavioural observations. - Participate actively in team meetings, professional development programmes, and ongoing learning opportunities.

Job Requirements

- Proven experience in the building industry, with a strong understanding of construction practices and safety regulations. - Ability to relate well to young people, encouraging, supporting, and being a positive role model. - Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate youth. - Previous experience in teaching, mentoring, or working with youth is highly desirable. - Must be able to pass Ministry of Justice check. - Must have a minimum restricted license.

Days of work
Monday - Friday between 8:00am - 5:00pm (30 hours per week)
