Our employer the country's largest dedicated expert in three waters - around 600 good people, making it happen across 10 locations. They specialise in water network maintenance and reticulation renewal construction.
Our employer is proud to have been selected as the preferred contractor for the Dunedin City Council 3 Waters Maintenance Contract. As they prepare for the new contract commencing July 2026, they are expanding their team and have a range of vacancies available now, with more to come. The new 10 year contract provides long term stability, meaningful career pathways and the chance to be part of a team delivering essential services to the Dunedin community.
Right now they are on the hunt for labourers who will work alongside experienced crews on essential network tasks. This is a hands on role for people who enjoy physical and practical work with a strong pathway into technical roles.
Duties include: - Complete reinstatement works and infrastructure upgrades - Repair meter connections, service pipes, leaking water mains and hydrants - Replace meters - Assist with repairs to council's water infrastructure - Flushing and water quality issues with water mains - Water main shut downs and block plan notifications - Deliver resources to site - Report all hazards / incidents / near misses - Maintain vehicles as required - Accurately complete your time sheets - Complete all other lawful and reasonable tasks required by your supervisor or manager - Adhere to all health and safety, environmental and quality systems and procedures - Ensure you keep yourself and others safe at work - Complete reporting as required, including hazards / incidents / near misses - Work positively with employer, environmental and quality staff to identify and resolve issues - Identify, recommend and implement opportunities to improve operational processes and automate / streamline where possible - Ensure your personal development and ongoing training enables you to carry out requested duties to the optimum level of efficiency - Proactively attain knowledge of new industry methods or processes and apply to situations where applicable
What you will need: - Relevant experience and/or relevant qualifications for the role you are interested in - You will be health & safety focused - Able and willing to participate in the on call and standby roster - Physically fit and work well within a team as well as independently - A full class 1 license and an ability to drive a manual is also essential
All preferred candidates will be required to complete pre-employment checks to the employers satisfaction. These checks include but are not limited to: - Ministry of Justice criminal background report - Medical assessment - Drug and alcohol testing
Job Requirements
- Pass pre-employment drug test - Undertake criminal background check (minor convictions considered on a case by case basis) - Full class 1 license and reliable transport to work (restricted license will be considered on a case by case basis) - Fit and healthy with no current injuries or significant history injuries - Up to date presentable CV and two contactable references - Reliable with a strong work ethic - Experience in a physical based role and the ability to undertake heavy lifting - Positive attitude and excellent communicator - Customer focused - Safety focused - Desirable but not essential - Prior like for like experience, WTR, traffic controller level 1 and/or safe working in confined spaces certificate.
- Days of work
- Generally Monday to Friday however must be available to work weekends when required. Hours TBC but usually between 8am and 6pm. (40 hours per week)
