Slicing and packing supervisor

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION To lead the slicing and packing function, ensuring meat is processed, packed and stored efficiently, accurately and to the highest food safety and hygiene standards. This role is responsible for people, output, stock control and cleanliness across the slicing and packing area.
TEAM LEADERSHIP & SUPERVISION • Supervise and support a team of slicing and packing staff (typically 3–4 people) • Allocate daily tasks and manage workflow across slicing, packing and clean-down • Ensure staff are trained, capable and working safely • Set clear expectations around pace, accuracy, hygiene and behaviour • Address performance issues early and calmly
SLICING & PACKING OPERATIONS • Carry out slicing and packing of bacon, ham and related products as required • Ensure slicing specifications, weights and presentation are met • Plan weekly slicing volumes to meet forecast demand and orders • Ensure packaging is completed accurately, labelled correctly and dated properly
STOCK CONTROL & INVENTORY • Maintain accurate stocktakes of finished goods and packaging materials • Monitor inventory levels and flag shortages early • Manage packaging stock (bags, boxes, ice packs, labels) • Ensure correct stock rotation (FIFO) and storage locations
FOOD SAFETY, HYGIENE & HACCP • Ensure all slicing and packing areas meet HACCP and food safety requirements • Oversee daily clean-downs and wash-downs • Ensure equipment and premises are cleaned thoroughly and on time • Maintain high standards of organisation and cleanliness at all times • Identify and address food safety risks immediately
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES • Support customer service when required • Communicate clearly with production and management around issues or changes • Ensure everything is in the right place, clearly labelled and ready for the next stage of production
Job Requirements
KEY COMPETENCIES
• Strong organisational and planning skills • Confident supervising and directing a small team • Good working knowledge of slicing, vacuum packing and food production equipment • Solid understanding of food safety and HACCP principles • Calm, practical problem-solving approach • Able to work to tight deadlines without losing accuracy PERSONAL SPECIFICATIONS
• Good level of literacy and numeracy • Comfortable with physical work in a food production environment • Takes pride in cleanliness, order and consistency • Reliable and punctual • Police records and drug testing may be required
