A well-established New Plymouth flooring company is looking for a motivated Junior Floor Layer to join their team. This is a great opportunity to learn the trade from experienced professionals while gaining hands-on experience across a variety of flooring projects.

About the role: You’ll work alongside senior floor layers, supporting them with the preparation, installation, and finishing of floor coverings, while developing the skills needed to become a qualified floor layer.

Key responsibilities include:

• Assisting with the installation of vinyl, carpet, laminate, and timber flooring • Learning correct techniques for measuring, cutting, laying, and finishing flooring materials • Preparing subfloors, including cleaning, levelling, sanding, and priming • Uplifting and disposing of existing flooring • Moving furniture as required and returning it neatly once jobs are completed • Using tools and equipment safely and correctly • Keeping work areas tidy and maintaining a safe work environment • Communicating politely and professionally with customers and team members • Working cooperatively as part of a team, including assisting with deliveries and other duties • Following instructions from senior floor layers and supervisors • Attending training sessions and team meetings as required

Job Requirements

Essential • Physically fit and able to manage job requirements • Reliable with good time management • Willingness to learn and take instruction • Present yourself professionally and hygienically • Must pass Drug check • Must pass MOJ • Must be available for weekend work Desirable: • Problem solving, analysis and judgement skills • Good communication skills
