An employer is seeking a motivated and reliable Farm Assistant to join their dairy farming operation. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on farm work, takes pride in animal welfare, and wants to be part of a well-run, compliant, and forward-thinking farm business.
As a Farm Assistant, you will support the day-to-day running of the farm, working closely with the Dairy Farm Manager to ensure high standards across animal health, milk quality, pasture management, and farm infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
• Assist with feed planning and day-to-day pasture management as required • Support weed and pest control programmes • Apply fertiliser and manage irrigation to optimise pasture performance • Ensure the smooth and efficient operation of all milking processes, including plant hygiene and maintaining somatic cell count standards • Operate and maintain the farm effluent system in line with regional council regulations and the employer’s additional standards • Maintain accurate and up-to-date effluent management records • Implement and support the farm’s animal health programme • Assist with calving, wintering, and calf-rearing programmes to minimise losses and produce high-quality herd replacements • Maintain accurate herd records and promptly report any unwell or injured animals • Work alongside the Dairy Farm Manager to contribute to the Farm Business Plan • Assist with scheduling and carrying out repairs and maintenance for all plant, machinery, and farm infrastructure
Job Requirements
• Applicants must be physically fit and willing to learn. • Applicants must pass preemployment drug test and have no criminal record. • Applicants are not required to have experience in the dairy shed, or with pasture-based farming as this is an entry level role and the employer is willing to provide necessary training. • Must have a driver licence. • Employee housing is provided on-site, and applicants must reside in the farm accommodation. No drive-in options available. Accommodation may be shared or private, depending on availability at the time of successful placement. No pets allowed.
