Forestry Worker (Silviculture)

A local silviculture contractor requires full time permanent workers. The company is a safe tree certified contractor based in Hawkes Bay. Currently looking for a number of Forestry Workers to join there growing crew. These positions are full time (usually 40 hours per week with a guarantee of 30 hours per week) and permanent. You will usually work Monday to Friday with the opportunity to work more hours. Hourly wage $28-30/hour.

Your duties will include:

1. Cutting, pruning and planting of trees 2. Cultivating, maintaining and protecting forests 3. Maintaining forest roads, buildings, facilities, signs and equipment if/when required 4. Killing weeds and thinning young plantations 5. Collecting seeds, and cultivating and planting seedlings for reafforestation purposes 6. Applying fertilisers, insecticides and herbicides to individual trees and general forest areas if/when required 7. Maintaining look-out for fires in forests 8. Removing major branches and tree tops, trimming and thinning branches/trees if/when required 9. Operating and maintaining manual and machine saws to thin trees to waste (e.g. cut unwanted trees etc.) Requirements for this role:

Pick-ups and drop-offs will be provided in Napier and Hastings area. Training and equipment will be provided. If overnight stay or travel is required employer will provide transport, accommodation and food or allowance.

- at least 1 year of relevant work experience - be able and willing to cultivate, maintain and protect forests - be able to follow health, safety and security measures at work - be physically fit - be prepared and able to work outdoors in all types of terrain - have a positive can-do attitude - reliable and keen to turn up for work - ready and able to pass pre-employment drug test
