A restaurant Maitre d’ (French for “master of the house”) manages the front of house, overseeing the dining room, reservations, guest seating, and service staff to ensure a smooth, high-quality dining experience. This role serves as the key link between guests and the kitchen.

The Maitre d’ leads the front-of-house team, providing guidance, support, and supervision during service. Responsibilities include managing table flow, handling guest inquiries and complaints professionally, and maintaining high standards of service, presentation, and atmosphere.

This position also supports staff training, onboarding, and development, and ensures compliance with health, safety, and host responsibility standards, while fostering a welcoming and efficient dining environment.

Job Requirements

Proven leadership experience with the ability to guide, mentor, and motivate a team; strong organizational and interpersonal skills.

Excellent verbal communication and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to make decisions, resolve conflicts, and oversee daily operations.

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time while supervising staff and ensuring smooth workflow.

Flexibility to work irregular and extended hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, while maintaining leadership presence and accountability.

Proficiency with reservation management and point-of-sale (POS) systems, including the ability to train and support team members in their use.
