About this job
Prepare and provide daily feed for calves, including milk and other nutritional requirements, while monitoring intake and making adjustments as needed.
Administer mineral supplements and follow veterinary or farm health instructions accurately.
Safely handle and move calves, including yard work, drafting, and preparing animals for transport as required.
Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of calf sheds, pens, bedding, and feeding equipment to a high standard.
Conduct daily health and welfare checks, promptly identifying and reporting any concerns.
Keep accurate basic records, including feed intake, treatments administered, and observations of calf health.
Adhere strictly to farm health and safety protocols, animal welfare standards, and biosecurity procedures at all times.
Job Requirements
Proven experience in calf rearing, with a minimum of 6 months relevant experience (experience in cow barn farming is an advantage).
Strong attention to detail, ensuring the health, hygiene, and wellbeing of calves are consistently maintained.
Experience with Wagyu calves or similar finicky breeds is highly desirable; requires patience, care, and dedication to training and nurturing.
Must be physically fit and comfortable working outdoors and handling animals.
Reliable, punctual, and able to follow instructions accurately.
Hold a full New Zealand driver’s licence.
Applicants must be New Zealand citizens or residents.
Willingness to undergo pre-employment and random drug testing.
Must pass a police check.
Applicants must be willing to work in a smoke-free environment. The role involves two daily shifts: morning and afternoon. The morning shift has a flexible start time, typically commencing around 6:30am, depending on overnight conditions and milk availability. The afternoon shift follows a more consistent and structured schedule. Flexibility and reliability are essential to meet operational requirements and ensure animal welfare standards are maintained.

- 8 days on, 2 days off schedule however, this may be negotiable for the right candidate. two daily shifts: morning and afternoon. (30 hours per week)
