A specialist wine company in Northcote is seeking a Wine Store Retail Assistant to join their team. This role suits someone who sees wine as more than just a product – it’s about knowledge, storytelling, and creating a genuine wine experience for customers.
The business offers a carefully curated range of New Zealand and international wines, hosts tastings and events, and operates alongside a wine bar. Customers come here for advice, recommendations, and expertise – not just to grab a bottle off the shelf.
About the role - Advising customers on wines, regions, producers, and styles - Creating a welcoming, informative wine experience for customers - Working sole charge at times in a specialist retail environment - Stock receipting, replenishment, and attention to compliance paperwork - Assisting with wine tastings, events, and online orders - Using Microsoft Office for admin and stock-related tasks - Ongoing self-directed learning about wine regions and varietals
Job Requirements
- LCQ required (Duty Manager’s Certificate preferred) - Strong knowledge of wine or a genuine passion supported by experience - 1-2 years Retail experience, with 6 months working within the liquor industry - Confident communicating wine knowledge to customers - Proactive, reliable, and able to work independently - Comfortable using Microsoft Word, Excel, and email - Willingness to continue learning – this is a specialist wine role - Own reliable transport required (location not easily accessible by public transport)
